Yoga Workshop for M. Ed Students

As part of the M.Ed. curriculum, a five day Yoga Workshop was organized at NSS Training College, Ottapalam, from 7 September 2026 to 11 September 2026. The workshop was conducted in the Conference Hall under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Menon K. P., who served as the resource person and instructor.

The main objective of the workshop was to create awareness among M.Ed. students about the importance of yoga for physical health, mental well-being, emotional balance, concentration, and a healthy lifestyle. As future teachers and educationists, M.Ed. students should be aware of the importance of holistic health and the contribution of yoga to the holistic development of both teachers and learners.

The programme included both theoretical and practical sessions. The sessions introduced participants to the basic concepts and principles of yoga, various yogic practices, asanas, breathing exercises, pranayama, relaxation techniques, and meditation. The instructor demonstrated the practices and guided the participants in performing them correctly and safely.

The practical sessions introduced participants to a range of basic yoga postures and exercises. Under the guidance of the instructor, the participants performed asanas such as Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Vajrasana, Sukhasana, Trikonasana, Bhujangasana, Shalabhasana, Padmasana, and Shavasana, along with Yoga Nidra. The proper body posture, alignment, breathing techniques, and precautions to be taken while performing the asanas were also explained.

Pranayama and breathing practices were given special emphasis. Participants were introduced to techniques such as deep breathing and Bhramari Pranayama. The instructor explained how conscious breathing can promote relaxation, mental calmness, concentration, and stress management.

The workshop also helped the participants understand the importance of physical fitness, mental relaxation, concentration, emotional balance, and healthy living. It highlighted the educational value of yoga and its potential contribution to the holistic development of learners.

The workshop was a fruitful and enriching experience that promoted a positive attitude towards yoga among the M.Ed. students. It encouraged them to consider the meaningful incorporation of yoga into their personal lives and future educational practices.
