Best Paper presenter award

In the UGC sponsored National Seminar on " Beyond the Techboom in ELT: Emerging Challenges and Opportunities" organized by Peet Memorial Training College, Mavelikara, Rekha Ravindran M Ed Student of our college participated and presented a paper.She won the best paper presenter award in the seminar.

The versatile genius Sri.Kavalam Narayana Panickeer was commemorated in our college. He was a popular dramatist, lyricist and philosopher. Dr. Lakshmi K Nair, Principal of the college, Dr. Anil Kumar KP, Dr Jayaprakash reflected on the contributions and achievements of the late genius. The students Ms. Deepthi, Ms.Vinshi, Ms. Reeja K and Smt. Reshma  also spoke on the dias. Popular songs of Kavalam were sung as gesture of paying tribute to him. It was followed by a silent prayer as an obeisance to the great personality.

A peer teaching on podcasting

A peer teaching  on podcasting in blogs was conducted today by Dr K.S. Sajan for the teaching faculty of the college. Various aspects and possibilities of podcasting in teaching learning process were explained during the session.

LOGO OF WOMEN CELL RELEASED

Executive meeting of  the NSS Training College Women Cell 2015-17 decided to create a logo for the college women cell.  Invitations were called for its logo from the students. There was a positive response from the students and the committee could gather more than 10 entries. The criteria for selecting the logo were message, vision, size, aptness etc. The logo by Amitha K, student of Natural science (B.Ed) option was selected unanimously by the women cell executive committee. The result was announced by Dr.Ampili Aravind, Associate Professor and Coordinator of College Women Cell, during the assembly conducted on 27th June 2016 in the presence of College Principal Dr. Lakshmi K. Nair and Sri. Suresh Kumar K, the staff secretary of the college. The announcement was followed by the publication of logo by the Principal.




Amitha K, the winner explained her concept as the three different potentialities of Woman. She explained that a Woman is the full circle, within her is the power to create, nurture and transform. The hand with the light shows the ability of the woman to spread light in this world. The  second hand shows the power within the woman( the concept of SHAKTHI). The hand with flowers shows that woman can spread love and happiness in this world.

Inititory Scool Experience-Another milestone for B.Ed students.

New curriculum, new methods brought a refreshing experience to theB.Ed second year students. The initiatory one week school teaching which started from 20th June gave them a wonderful opportunity to prepare for the upcoming four months internship. Share teaching with peers and observation of senior teachers' classes were also a new chapter in their academic life.This one week experience from N S S K P T, L S N Convent and East Ottapalam HSS is going to be helpful in the coming teaching endeavours.

This is  the first time after implementing two year BEd syllabus that the students visit schools for initiatory school experience. From 20 june to 24 th june students will be engaged in schools and will return to college on 27th june

A Collaboration With Jeeva Karunya Trust

A financial aid distribution ceremony for promising economically backward students from various institutions in Palakkad district has been conducted under the aegis of Indian Charitable Trust in NSS Training College. Dr. Anil Kumar KP, Assistant professor of NSS Training College, delivered the welcoming speech. The principal of the college Dr. Lakshmi K Nair presided over the function. It was inaugurated by the honourable municipal chairman Sri Narayanan Namboothiri. Dr. M R Gopalakrishnan Nair delivered the introductory speech. The function was felicitated by Dr. Gopinath(retired professor), Dr. KKG Priyesh (Assistant professor NSS College Ottapalam) and K Rajan (Head Master, NSS KPT). Sri Joseph Chandi, chief sponsor and managing trustee, explained the aims and activities of the trust. Sri K Sreevalsan delivered the vote of thanks. Teachers and students from various schools were present.

OBSERVATION OF INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

2nd International Yoga day was observed in our college on 21st June 2016  The session was from 10.00am to 1.00pm, Principal Dr.Lakshmi K Nair did the inaguration. It was co-ordinated by Dr.Seema Menon K.P,Tr-in-chrarge . All the B.Ed & M.Ed students of the college participated in the programme.  Ms.Lalitha, Yoga instructor, Vedha Yoga institute and mediation centre Palakkad led the session. During the session the instructor demonstrated warming up exercises, breathing techniques, various yoga postures and explained the benefits of each.  It was followed by the practical sessions and the instructor clarified the doubts regarding the same.  The session came to an end with a meditation. The programme was very fruitful and provided relaxation for the students.

"Focus"; functions Inaugurated

The functions for the year 2016 -2017 of the college film club "Focus" was kick started on 17/06/2016. The session was deviated one because of the persons invited to inaugurate it. Sri. Vishnudath TV and Sri.  Prosobh jointly inaugurated the club activities. Both of them are old students of the college. They are short film directors too. It was a different choice and honor for the alumni. Sri. Harinarayanan S, Ast Proessor NSS College, Palappuram delivered the key note addres. He spoke on the need of more attention that is to be engaged with framing female characters in malayalam movies. Beena (student, MEd) presided over the session. Dr. Laxmi S Nair(Principal) Sankaranarayanan Paleeri,(Ast Professor and film club coordinator), Sri Anil, Kum. Aswathi (Secretary film club)also spoke on the dias. The inagural session followed screening of short films. "Kazhchakkappuram" and "Randu" were the movies screened for students

Demonstration Classes Conducted

As a part of B.Ed curriculum, a demonstration class was conducted under the guidance of Dr.Mridhula,Assistant professor, NSS training college Ottapalam.Jijikrishna and Harsha took demonstration class for B.Ed students of English Department. Demonstrators used new methodology (Constructivism)for taking classes. It was very effective and valuable for students.

UGC College Regulations Amended

*4th Amendment to Regulations 2010: Approved by UGC in its 516th meeting on 15 June 2016*

_*Highlights*_

> Direct teaching work load has been restored to *16, 14, 14 hours per week* for assistant professors, associate professors and professors respectively.

> There will be no retrenchment of teachers on account of API and workload criteria including those who are teaching 'ad-hoc'.

> Direct teaching hours would *include tutorials, practicals, field work* apart from lectures and project supervision.

> *Mentoring* by Professors and teachers will also be recognised while calculating direct teaching score.

> Achieving of minimum scoring in direct teaching dimension of API possible with these changes.

> Regarding research dimension of API:
*Capping* has been retained in only one sub category which is that of *invited lectures*.

> The provision of *student feedback* for teachers will still be there.

> The UGC shall maintain a *List of Journals* for the consideration of Journals for API score. Inclusion of journals to this list will be considered by the UGC on the basis of its Standing Committee recommendations on a list, *furnished by a University*, and within 60 days of its receipt by the Standing Committee.

> The University shall identify the journals subject-wise through subject expert committees and forward the recommendations to UGC in the format prescribed by UGC for approval of the UGC Standing Committee.

> The UGC Standing Committee may also, suo motu, recommend journals for inclusion in the “List of Journals”. 

> The *list of books* for consideration of API calculation will be *decided by the University* and intimated to the UGC.

> Scoring in research dimension of API will also include writing *policy documents* of Central, State and local bodies.

> *Reappointment of college principals*:

*External peer review*, in the format specified by the UGC, shall be taken into account by the Selection Committee while considering a second term to the incumbent Principal of a College.

Debate on 3rd module topic different approaches of curriculum


  • Today the students of M Ed department conducted a debate on different approaches of curriculum. Smt Remya M acted as moderator of the seminar. Two groups having 2 subgroups each,debated well on their perceptions regarding different approaches in curriculum.
