AIDS Awareness Magic Show

NSS Unit 301 in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club of of NSS Training College Ottapalam conducted a magic show on 11/09/2025 at 12.30 pm to make the prospective teachers aware about AIDS. Ms Sreeshma rendered the welcome address. Principal in charge Prof (Dr ) Smitha R inaugurated the program. Red ribbon club coordinator Dr Lekshmi V rendered felicitations. Magician Rajeev Memunda lead the program. Ms Anagha S Raj rendered vote of thanks. It was an amazing experience for all.

ഒറ്റപ്പാലത്ത് “പഠിക്കാൻ ഒരു ഉടുപ്പ്” പദ്ധതി

ഒറ്റപ്പാലം NSS ട്രെയിനിംഗ് കോളേജ് സ്റ്റാഫ് കൗൺസിലിന്റെ ആഭിമുഖ്യത്തിൽ “പഠിക്കാൻ ഒരു ഉടുപ്പ്” പദ്ധതി സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചു. ഒറ്റപ്പാലം എൻ എസ് എസ് കെ.പി.ടി. ഹൈസ്കൂളിലെ 75 ഓളം വരുന്ന പഠിക്കാൻ മിടുക്കരായ നിർധനരായ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾക്കാണ് സൗജന്യ യൂണിഫോം വിതരണം നടത്തിയത്. പ്രോഗ്രാം കോർഡിനേറ്റർ പ്രൊഫ. ഡോ. സുനിൽ കുമാർ എ.എസ്.  സ്വാഗത പ്രസംഗം നടത്തി.  കോളേജ് പ്രിൻസിപ്പൽ പ്രൊഫ. ഡോ. സ്മിത ആർ അധ്യക്ഷസ്ഥാനം നിർവഹിച്ച പരിപാടി പാലക്കാട് എം.പി. ശ്രീ വി.കെ. ശ്രീകണ്ഠൻ ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. എൻ എസ് എസ് കെ.പി.ടി. സ്കൂൾ പ്രധാനാധ്യാപിക ശ്രീമതി കെ രാധിക ബാലചന്ദ്രൻ, സ്കൂൾ സ്റ്റാഫ് സെക്രട്ടറി മനു പ്രസാദ് കെ എന്നിവർ ആശംസകൾ അറിയിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് സംസാരിച്ചു . ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് 12.30 മുതൽ 3.00 മണിവരെ നീണ്ടു നിന്ന പരിപാടിയ്ക്ക് എൻ എസ് എസ്  ട്രെയിനിങ് കോളേജ് സ്റ്റാഫ് സെക്രട്ടറി ഡോ. ലക്ഷ്മി.  വി ,നന്ദി അറിയിച്ചു.

Report on Anti-Ragging Week Observation
12th – 18th August 2025 at
NSS Training College, Ottapalam


Anti Ragging Day was observed in the college on 12 th August 2025.
The Anti-Ragging Week at NSS Training College, Ottapalam was inaugurated on 12th August 2025 in the General Hall. The ceremony began with a prayer and Acharyavandanam by Upasana U. and Namitha C., followed by the welcome address delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Seema Menon K. P., Anti-Ragging Cell Coordinator. The event was officially inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R., Principal-in-Charge. A presentation on the theme “Ragging does not break the ice, it breaks lives” was delivered by Praveena A. P. and Niveditha K. V., and the function concluded with a vote of thanks by Darshana K. and the National Anthem.
Day 1 (12th August 2025): The first day of the observance included a special session on the theme “Ragging does not break the ice, it breaks lives”. Presented by Praveena A. P. and Niveditha K. V., the session shed light on the severe consequences of ragging and emphasized the need for a respectful and inclusive campus culture.
Day 2 (13th August 2025): A Poster Making Competition was held on the theme “Ragging: A Scar on Our Future.” The contest received two thoughtful entries, both carrying strong messages against ragging. After evaluation, Treesa Mol C. J. (I Year Natural Science) was declared the winner of the competition.
Day 3 (14th August 2025): The week continued with a Photography Contest based on the theme “Together We Rise.” The competition inspired students to capture unity and collective growth through photography. Out of five creative entries, Akhila N. K. (I Year Social Science) was adjudged the winner for her impactful submission.
Day 4 (15th August 2025): A Logo Creation Contest was organized on the theme “Say No to Ragging, Say Yes to Friendship.” Students were encouraged to convey awareness against ragging through creative symbols and designs. Six impressive entries were submitted, and Anusree M. P. (I Year Mathematics) emerged as the winner with her meaningful design.
Day 5 (16th August 2025): An Essay Writing Competition was conducted on the theme “No Place for Fear: How Education Dismantles Ragging Culture.” The competition encouraged reflective writing and critical insights into how education combats ragging. Eight essays in English and Malayalam were received, and Fathima Shifa (I Year Natural Science) won the contest for her well-articulated essay.
Day 6 (16th August 2025): A Slogan Making Competition was organized on the theme “Don’t be a bully, be a buddy.” The event motivated students to craft original slogans that conveyed powerful messages against ragging. Out of ten entries, Amrutha K. (I Year Natural Science) was declared the winner for her impactful slogan.
Day 7 (18th August 2025): The week concluded with a Flash Mob under the slogan “Beat Ragging with Every Step.” The vibrant performance by enthusiastic students effectively spread awareness about the harmful effects of ragging, while promoting unity, friendship, and a positive campus culture.
Overall, the Anti-Ragging Week was marked by enthusiastic student participation across various events, each activity reinforcing the importance of building a safe and supportive campus environment. The programme was organized by the Anti-Ragging Cell in collaboration with IQAC and NSS Unit 301, under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Menon K. P. (Teacher Coordinator) and Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R. (Principal-in-Charge). Student volunteers Anupama, Anagha, and Nayana (I Year Physical Science Optional) efficiently coordinated the events, and certificates were awarded to the winners as recognition of their contributions.

Blue Sapphire Jubilee of our college

Report on the 65th Anniversary Celebration
NSS Training College, Ottapalam
The 65th Anniversary of NSS Training College, Ottapalam, a premier institution and research centre in education accredited with NAAC A+ Grade (CGPA 3.40, III Cycle), was celebrated with great enthusiasm and dignity on 18th August 2025 at the General Hall of the college. The event marked a significant milestone in the glorious journey of the institution, celebrating sixty-five years of excellence in education, research, and service to society.
The programme commenced at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer and Acharyavandanam by Aswathy P. R. and Architha Ranjan, invoking blessings and paying respect to teachers. This was followed by a warm Welcome Speech delivered by Anirudh. R, who extended heartfelt greetings to the dignitaries, faculty, students, and guests.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Smitha. R, Principal-in-Charge of the college. In her inspiring speech, she highlighted the institution’s rich legacy, academic achievements, and commitment to holistic education. She also emphasized the college’s continued dedication to fostering research, innovation, and value-based education in line with the goals of NEP 2020.
The formal Inauguration of the event was conducted by Sri. Narayanan. P, President of NSS Taluk Union, Ottapalam. In his address, he commended the college for its remarkable contributions to teacher education and societal development. He also encouraged the faculty and students to uphold the ideals of the NSS movement and carry forward the spirit of service, discipline, and excellence.
The session included Words of Appreciation by Athira T. N. and Aparna T. N., who expressed gratitude and admiration for the institution’s remarkable journey and its nurturing environment that continues to shape competent educators.
A heartfelt Vote of Thanks was proposed by Vismaya Prasad. K, who acknowledged the efforts of the organizing committee, faculty members, student volunteers, and all participants who made the celebration a memorable success.
The programme was effectively compered by Arathi. P, ensuring smooth coordination of all sessions. Student coordination was undertaken by the Physical Science Department, under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Menon. K. P, Teacher Coordinator.

The event served not only as a celebration of past achievements but also as an inspiration to embrace the future with renewed vision and commitment. With a legacy of 65 years of academic excellence, NSS Training College, Ottapalam, reaffirmed its role as a beacon of quality teacher education in Kerala.

App for the Week-Duolingo


Report of the Event – App for the Week

The IT Club of NSS Training College, Ottapalam, in collaboration with the First-Year Malayalam Optional students, organized the “App for the Week” programme on 22nd August 2025 at the General Hall. The aim of the programme was to familiarize students with innovative and useful digital applications that can enhance learning and productivity.

The session of the week featured the popular language learning application “Duolingo.” The presentation was handled by Ms. Daya B, who explained the unique features, benefits, and practical applications of the app in promoting multilingual learning. She highlighted how Duolingo provides an engaging and gamified experience for users to learn languages effectively.
The event commenced at 9:30 a.m. under the guidance of Dr. K. S. Sajan, Co-ordinator of the IT Club. The Principal-in-Charge, Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R, appreciated the efforts of the organizers and encouraged the students to make use of such digital tools to enrich their academic as well as personal development.
The programme proved to be informative and interactive, giving students a better understanding of the role of mobile applications in enhancing knowledge and skills. It also served as a platform to promote digital literacy and encourage the adoption of educational technology in everyday learning.

2. Key Findings

a) Dissertation Performance

  • External Evaluation (DIS EXT): Mean = 78.9, fairly high with a narrow spread (SD = 5.04). Indicates consistently strong performance.

  • Internal Evaluation (DIS INT): Very high (Mean = 94.5), with very low variation (SD = 0.72) – showing uniform assessment across candidates.

  • Viva: Average = 38.8, suggesting good oral defence skills.

  • Overall Dissertation Marks: Mean = 212, Median = 214, showing strong research performance.

b) Internal Components

  • INTERNAL MARKS all have mean scores around 19.4–19.7 (out of 20) with very low standard deviations, meaning that almost all students achieved near full marks.

  • Internship marks are uniform (Mean = 72.5, SD = 0.66) – showing standard evaluation across candidates.

c) Theory / Evaluation Components

  • Guidance & Counselling: Mean = 59.2 (moderate), narrow spread (SD = 4.6).

  • Non-formal Education: Mean = 57.7, SD = 7.95 – moderate with variability.

  • Inclusive Education: Mean = 53, SD = 8.37 – shows wider variation, some students scoring low (Min = 40).

  • Educational Technology: Mean = 58.7, SD = 5.51 – moderate, with scope for improvement.

d) Overall Trends

  • Dissertation-related performance is excellent (both external and internal).

  • Internal components and internship are almost perfect, showing strong teacher preparation.

  • Theory-related subjects (Guidance & Counselling, Non-formal Education, Inclusive Education, Educational Technology) show comparatively lower and more varied scores, suggesting that exam-oriented performance and conceptual clarity in theoretical papers need strengthening.


3. Conclusion

  • The M.Ed. Fourth-semester batch performed strongly in dissertation, viva, and internship, reflecting solid research and practical training.

  • Internal assessments are consistently high, indicating steady academic support.

  • However, theory papers show moderate scores and variability, especially in Inclusive Education and Non-formal Education, where students need more academic reinforcement.

IT CLUB INAUGURATION AND DIGITAL ORIENTATION

 

Report of the Inauguration and Digital Orientation of the IT Club


The IT Club of NSS Training College, Ottapalam, organized its Inauguration and Digital Orientation Programme on 18-08-2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the College Auditorium. The event was convened with the objective of introducing the aims and activities of the IT Club, and to familiarize students with digital tools and resources that can support both academic and professional development.


The programme commenced with a Welcome Address delivered by Ms. Vismaya, Secretary of the IT Club, who warmly greeted the dignitaries, faculty members, and students present.


The session was formally inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R, Principal-in-Charge, who, in her inaugural address, emphasized the importance of digital literacy and the need for students to adapt to emerging technologies in the contemporary academic and professional landscape.


Following the inauguration, a Digital Orientation Session was conducted by Dr. K. S. Sajan, Co-ordinator of the IT Club. He elaborated on the objectives of the club, outlined its proposed activities, and introduced participants to a variety of digital platforms and applications designed to enhance learning, creativity, and productivity. The session was highly informative and interactive, providing valuable insights to the students.


The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Nithya, IT Club Member, who expressed gratitude to the Principal, faculty members, organizing team, and participants for their support and encouragement in making the event a success.


Overall, the inauguration and digital orientation programme marked a promising beginning for the activities of the IT Club, offering students a platform to explore technological advancements and apply them effectively in their academic pursuits.

Three alumni who pursued the Mathematics optional subject in 2005 visited our college today. The visitors included:

Farewell: Sri Suresh Kumar K, Head Accountant

 
A heartfelt farewell ceremony was held on 21st July 2025 at the Multipurpose Hall of NSS Training College, Ottapalam to honour Shri. Suresh Kumar K, the  Head Accountant of the institution. The event marked the culmination of his dedicated service and valuable contributions to the college.

The program commenced with a warm welcome by Dr Lekshmi V,  Staff Secretary acknowledging the significant role Shri. Suresh Kumar played in the administrative smoothness of the college.

Former Principal Prof (Dr) Ampili Aravind presided the ceremony and , in the presidential address,  appreciated the unwavering commitment and integrity of Shri. Suresh Kumar. She emphasized how his presence had positively impacted the staff and overall functioning of the institution.
Principal in charge Prof (Dr) Smitha R, Faculty members and administrative staff members shared their memories and extended their gratitude, recalling his professionalism, patience, and cordial attitude over the years.

Prof ( Dr) Ampili Aravind presented Shri. Suresh Kumar  a  memento as a token of love and respect from the NSS Training College family.

In his emotional farewell speech, Shri. Suresh Kumar K expressed his gratitude to the management, colleagues, and staff for their unwavering support and fond memories.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Sri Manoj, Representative of Office Staff acknowledging everyone who contributed to making the event memorable.
