FIVE DAY ICT WORKSHOP FOR FIRST YEAR M ED STUDENTS

REPORT ON 5 DAYS ICT WORKSHOP

As a part of Calicut University M. Ed curriculum, ” MED 102 ICT Cum Soft skills / Expository Writing Workshop '' five days workshop on the above topic was conducted from 05/12/2022 to 09/12/2022. The program was inaugurated by Dr Ampili Aravind (college principal) and the workshop was hosted by Dr K. S. Sajan (Assistant Professor). 

 The purpose of this workshop is to develop tech skills and unleash the boundaries of the science world. 

DAY 1 - 5/12/2022

After the inaugural ceremony, the Principal wished good luck and also provided an outlook on the success and outcomes of these productive workshops which were also conducted by Dr K S Sajan himself. Then the resource person Dr Sajan gave a glimpse of the importance and effectiveness of developing these soft skills in order to be resourcefully competent in the ever-developing field of world and education. M Ed first-year leader Reshma S felicitated the gathering and expressed gratitude towards the Principal, the teachers and the College management for giving the valuable opportunity and platform for upskilling the ICT competency skills. 

After the session - Dr KS Sajan -the resource person introduced and explained the APA Format in the research field. The demonstration was also given on the same. The resource person then took everyone towards the world of various tools essential in MS office and gave instructions on Powerpoint presentation, Poster - Brochure creation. The session was truly helpful and informative at the sense time very joyful, the students seems to be thoroughly energetic and curious. 

Day 2 - 6/12/22

Adapting to the new routine - the world of ICT, each and everyone has reached the Computer lab at the time. The second-day session began at sharp 9. 30 AM. Pupils were helping each other to complete the assigned ICT products. The Resource person -Dr Sajan introduced the day's topics - Microsoft Excel, Jamovi etc. He briefly explained various statistical graphs and their creativity which are important features of Dissertation Preparation. The Demonstration session was fascinating. Jamovi is a new thing for everyone, and the class’s participation and involvement were very much. Dr Sajan then explained about E-content video preparation and various tools like OBS STUDIO -A-Z SCREEN RECORDER used for it. 

DAY 3 - 7/12/2022

The third day of the workshop was demonstrated by Dr K. S Sajan. He introduced comic apps and uses them for preparing cartoons. He demonstrates a model and asks us to prepare a content-related comic. He introduced various tools in a simple way. it helps us to convey the topic very easily. All the students follow his instruction and create a comic in connection with their subject. 

In the afternoon section, we discussed Google classroom and its importance. He demonstrated Google classroom as a teacher and as a student, Then each of us creates a Google classroom and upload our own ICT products. And he demonstrated the assignment submission and evaluation process. Then we share our Google classroom link through WhatsApp. 

In the last section we discussed Google Forms, and he explained how to create a Google form. And he asked us to make five questions about our topic. We made a google form. At last, he gave an overview of the section. Then he cleared all our doubts. 


DAY 4 - 8/12/2022

On the fourth day of the workshop demonstration and creation of a blog were discussed in detail. First, Dr K S Sajan demonstrated how a blog was set up using ‘blogger. com’. He explained in detail all the steps leading to blog creation. All the students followed his instructions and a blog was created for everyone. Second, he discussed the different tools and gadgets on the page along with their application and use. The students noted down the major points for future reference. 

Dr K S Sajan’s class and the simultaneous work by students on their laptops on their own blog pages made it easier for them to understand the techniques well. Also, this led to immediate doubt-solving sessions which made the class more interesting and educating. 

As the class progressed, students were able to make modifications to their blogs, and add more pages, and notes related to their subjects. make modifications and so on. The excitement and enthusiasm in the class heightened as everyone competed to make their blogs the best. This added to the vigour of the class. By the end of the session, each student who participated in the class was able to grasp the process involved in creating a blog. The day ended with a very positive vibe which motivated the students to attend the sessions the next day with the same energy. 

As it was the last day of the workshop, the passion and eagerness were at their peak for both Dr K S Sajan and the students. All the products namely; MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, Jamovi app, Poster and Brochure making, E-content, cartoon making, and creating blogs were discussed in the previous classes and the students were assigned work so that all their workshop products may be submitted for assessment. 

The links for submission of the products with the deadlines were already arranged and given to the students by Dr K S Sajan. The whole day was spent modifying the products. The entire class shared a positive and warm atmosphere throughout, where each of them helped others in completing their work and submitting it. In between, an announcement by Dr K S Sajan about an ‘M Learning Certificate Course’ was made. The course is designed to help the students understand the topic of ICT better. It includes exams at the end of the course. It was interesting to know that after successful completion of the course the students would be awarded certificates. 

The students were asked to join the course. In short, the whole day went well and at the end of the day, the students shared their happiness to be a part of such a wonderful workshop by such a resourceful person. 

The five days workshop was like a ‘cherry on top for the students in their M. Ed life. The sessions were so helpful that they helped to get an insight into the different technicalities, applications, and knowledge of different ICT-related products. The importance of such a class is beyond words for an M. Ed student. The course was informative as well as exciting. Dr K S Sajan was so particular about the information he passed on to the students and made sure that all the students benefited from the class and that no point is missed. In short, it can be said without any doubt that the workshop conducted was beneficial as it made all the students who attended it more confident, more informed, and more educated.
