Alumni visit on 28/07/2025


Three alumni who pursued the Mathematics optional subject in 2005 visited our college today. The visitors included:

Mayalakshmi V. K., HSST in Mathematics at Government Higher Secondary School, Varavoor

Dr. Deepa S. Nair, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at D. B. Pampa College, Parumala

Jyothilakshmi K., a Teacher at Gems Our Own English High School, Dubai.

They took photos with the teachers who taught them, 20 years back & shared their happy memories of our college.

Farewell: Sri Suresh Kumar K, Head Accountant

 
A heartfelt farewell ceremony was held on 21st July 2025 at the Multipurpose Hall of NSS Training College, Ottapalam to honour Shri. Suresh Kumar K, the  Head Accountant of the institution. The event marked the culmination of his dedicated service and valuable contributions to the college.

The program commenced with a warm welcome by Dr Lekshmi V,  Staff Secretary acknowledging the significant role Shri. Suresh Kumar played in the administrative smoothness of the college.

Former Principal Prof (Dr) Ampili Aravind presided the ceremony and , in the presidential address,  appreciated the unwavering commitment and integrity of Shri. Suresh Kumar. She emphasized how his presence had positively impacted the staff and overall functioning of the institution.
Principal in charge Prof (Dr) Smitha R, Faculty members and administrative staff members shared their memories and extended their gratitude, recalling his professionalism, patience, and cordial attitude over the years.

Prof ( Dr) Ampili Aravind presented Shri. Suresh Kumar  a  memento as a token of love and respect from the NSS Training College family.

In his emotional farewell speech, Shri. Suresh Kumar K expressed his gratitude to the management, colleagues, and staff for their unwavering support and fond memories.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Sri Manoj, Representative of Office Staff acknowledging everyone who contributed to making the event memorable.

The NSS Training College, Ottapalam, a prestigious Research Centre in Education accredited by NAAC with A+ (CGPA 3.40), successfully conducted the Induction Program for the newly admitted B.Ed 2025–27 batch on 21st July 2025. The event marked a warm and inspiring beginning for the incoming teacher trainees.

The program commenced at 9:30 AM with Prayer and Aacharya Vandhanam, led by the M.Ed. students, setting a spiritual and respectful tone to the event.

Welcome Address

Dr. K. S. Sajan, Admission Nodal Officer, extended a warm welcome to the new batch, dignitaries, and faculty members. He emphasized the importance of teacher education and the college's vision in shaping competent educators.

Presidential Address

Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R., Principal in Charge, delivered the presidential address. She highlighted the legacy, achievements, and academic excellence of the institution, and encouraged students to fully immerse themselves in the learning process.

Following the induction, Prof. (Dr.) Sunilkumar A. S., Co-ordinator of the Academic Monitoring Cell, conducted a Curriculum Orientation. He elaborated on the course structure, assessment strategies, and the role of outcome-based education in teacher training.

Anti Ragging Awareness class & Workshop

Report on Anti-Ragging Awareness  class & Workshop
NSS Training College, Ottapalam
Date: 17th July 2025

An Anti-Ragging Awareness Class and  Workshop was conducted at NSS Training College, Ottapalam on 17th July 2025, specifically organized for the newly admitted B.Ed students. The session was led by Prof. Dr. Seema Menon K. P, the Teacher Co-ordinator of the Anti-Ragging Cell.  It was a two hours programme.
The primary objective of the workshop was to raise awareness among students about the detrimental impact of ragging and to promote a secure, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere on campus. The program featured a series of engaging and informative activities, including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), experience sharing by senior students, and expert talks.
Participants actively took part in discussions, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the psychological and social consequences of ragging. Through group deliberations, students proposed a range of effective strategies to prevent ragging within the institution. The proposed measures included:

• Installing complaint and suggestion boxes at key locations on campus.

• Enhancing the activities of the Anti-Ragging Cell to make its presence more effective.

• Promoting combined programs involving juniors and seniors to foster positive relationships.

• Installing CCTV surveillance systems in sensitive areas for increased security.

• Establishing a counseling center to offer psychological support to students.

• Introducing a dedicated anti-ragging helpline for timely assistance.

• Implementing strict disciplinary measures and ensuring proper enforcement of anti-ragging laws.

• Curbing violence-based political activities within the college premises.

• Conducting flash mobs and awareness campaigns to engage and educate students.

• Using films and documentaries to spread awareness creatively and impactfully.

• Initiating an ice-breaking mechanism to help freshers adjust and connect comfortably.

• Launching a structured mentor-mentee program for academic and emotional support.

The workshop concluded with a strong and unified student commitment to upholding a ragging-free campus culture. It successfully equipped the participants with the necessary tools, knowledge, and confidence to recognize, address, and prevent ragging in all its forms.

 PhD- Open Defence and Viva- voce of Sri. Mohammed Shiyas MV under the supervision fo Dr. Sankaranaraynan Paleeri - 18-07-2025 


Sri. mohammed Shiyas M V, part time research scholar for PhD in the research department of the college appeared for open defence and viva voce succfully. He completed the research under the supervision of Dr. Sankaranarayanan Paleeri. This was the third PhD awarding in the college, and seond scholar of Dr. Paleeri. His fisrt scholar was Ms. Fathimath Naseena, who gained PhD in 2023. 

Sri. Shiyas had submitted the thisis in the month of February, 2025. The DoR issued an ordr on 18-06-2025 suggesting to conduct the open defenc and viva voce, and the same held on 18-07-2025. Dr. A Vizhimaran, Associate Professor of Eduction, Govt College of Education, Thanjavur, TN was the chairman of the session. Sri. Shiyas presented the thesis with the support of detailed PPT by taking 40 minutes. Crucial discussions were went on the thesis. Questions were arised by participants. Scholar answered all questions and defended succfully. Finally the chairman delivered his concluding remarks and suggested the Faculty of Education, University of Calicut to award PhD in Education to Sri, Mohammed Shiays MV. It was a brilliant academic session.

National Conference on "Shaping the Future of Teacher Education: Transforming NCTE-recognised Stand-Alone TEIs into Multidisciplinary HEIs"


A National Conference titled "Shaping the Future of Teacher Education: Transforming NCTE-recognised Stand-Alone TEIs into Multidisciplinary HEIs" was organized online on 08 July 2025 by NSS Training College, Ottapalam, in collaboration with the Council for Teacher Education Foundation – Kerala (CTEF-Kerala). The event aimed to build awareness and encourage dialogue on integrating stand-alone Teacher Education Institutions into multidisciplinary Higher Education Institutions in line with the NEP 2020 vision. The inaugural session included a welcome address, keynote speech by Prof. Mohan B. Menon, and remarks from eminent dignitaries such as Dr. M.S. Geetha and Prof. (Dr.) Rajeswari K. The session emphasized the need for institutional synergy, policy reforms, and quality enhancement in teacher education.
















The technical session featured a theme presentation by Dr. K.S. Sajan, who elaborated on the strategic and academic dimensions of transforming TEIs. This was followed by a discussion session initiated by Prof. (Dr.) V Reghu, where participants engaged in sharing perspectives and practical insights. Over 200 national and international delegates participated in the conference and actively contributed to the discussions. The event was well-organized under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Menon K.P. and Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R, with strong support from the organizing committee. With no registration fee and the provision of e-certificates, the conference successfully served as a collaborative platform for academicians and stakeholders to shape the future of teacher education.

Based on the feedback analysis of the national webinar titled “Shaping the Future of Teacher Education: Transforming NCTE Recognised Stand-Alone TEIs into Multidisciplinary HEIs,” it is evident that the event was highly successful and well-received. With over 160 participants from diverse teacher education institutions across India, the webinar garnered an impressive average rating of 4.82 out of 5. Nearly 85% of the respondents rated the session as excellent, appreciating its relevance, clarity, and the depth of information provided. Participants particularly valued the insights into the implementation of NEP 2020 and the future of ITEP, with many commenting on the usefulness, structure, and timeliness of the presentations. A few suggestions for improvement included the inclusion of more content on D.El.Ed institutions and extended time for interactive discussion. Overall, the feedback reflects a strong endorsement of the webinar’s objectives and execution, underscoring its impact on enhancing professional understanding and engagement in teacher education reform.

Introduction

A two-day intensive workshop on Critical Understanding of ICT was conducted under the EDU.401 EPC 3 Course by Dr. K. S. Sajan on 7th and 8th July 2025. The programme aimed at equipping student-teachers with critical perspectives on the role of ICT in education, moving beyond mere computer literacy to meaningful integration of ICT in teaching, learning, administration, and professional development.

The workshop aligned with the vision of NCFTE 2009 by promoting self-directed, collaborative, and constructivist approaches to teacher education.

Objectives

The workshop was designed to:

1. Develop critical understanding of ICT as a curricular resource.


2. Enable teachers to integrate technology into pedagogy.


3. Train student-teachers in creating and using digital resources.


4. Reflect on the socio-cultural, political, and economic implications of ICT in education.


5. Equip future teachers with skills for ICT-enabled record-keeping, information management, and content creation.

Structure of the Workshop

The workshop was organized in three modules (workshops), each with theory inputs, demonstrations, and extensive hands-on sessions.

Workshop 1 – Digital Textbook / e-Resources (Day 1 & Day 2)

Phase I: Spreadsheets as a Tool for Teaching-Learning & Administration

Introduction to spreadsheet applications.

Practical exercises: preparing mark lists, calculating mean/median/mode, grade calculation, and creating graphs.


Phase II: E-Documents and Digital Textbooks

Preparation of digital texts integrating content, images, audio, and video.

Designing classroom timetables using digital tools.


Phase III: ICT-Integrated Lesson Using Presentation Software

Planning and creating ICT-based digital lessons.

Student presentations incorporating multimedia resources.



Outcome: Student-teachers successfully prepared digital lesson plans, e-documents, and interactive digital textbooks.

Workshop 2 – ICT Integration with Pedagogy (Day 3)

Theme: Teacher as a Techno-Pedagogue

Expert presentation on the role of teachers in integrating ICT meaningfully into pedagogy.

Hands-on training: Creation of personal educational websites.


Outcome: Each participant designed and published a personal website as a platform for professional sharing and academic communication.

Workshop 3 – E-Content Development (Day 4)

Phase I: Integrating Multimedia Using Open-Source Software

Introduction to free and open-source software for content creation.

Building directories of images, audio, and video resources.


Phase II: e-Content Development with eXe Software

Hands-on training in authoring e-content modules.

Development of interactive digital content by participants.



Outcome: Student-teachers produced original e-content materials, suitable for classroom use, integrating multimedia and interactive components.
